Hewlett attempted to rally institutions behind him, objecting to the merger but without success. After his losing battle and resignation from the board, 17,000 employees were laid off.
Biostar Mainboard Chief Financial Officer Robert Wayman was named interim CEO while Patricia Dunn was named non-executive chairwoman. On Monday, venture capitalist Thomas Perkins was renamed to the board. Perkins replaced retiring director Sanford Litvack. Perkins had been an HP board member from 2002 to 2004.
