Apple risks computer market on Intel chip switch

by Dave Porter

Microprocessor Design While Apple enthusiasts seem to applaud the computer manufacturers move in switching to Intel chips, the move also risks a fall in PC sales until the new computers are released.

The central or primary circuit board making up the complex computer system. Intel and AMD CPUs require their own motherboard chipsets and cannot be interchanged with each other; however, not all Intel or AMD CPUs will fit into a designated motherboard for that vendor. All CPUs have a certain "pin" or "socket" number, or simply a product name, which is also identified on a motherboard, certifying the board for the insertion of a certain CPU (i.e.: certified motherboard).

  1. The primary computing unit in a mainframe computer. in the PC today, this is usually a Intel Pentium class processor or competing AMD or Cyrix microprocessor. In separate device with a microprocessor, the microprocessor is the CPU for the device. If a device has a microprocessor, it is said to be a "Smart" device, without a microprocessor, it is a "dumb" device.

Most graphics software utilizes this refined value for a point. Power PC Chip A microprocessor chip jointly developed by Apple, IBM and Motorola that has the capability to run commonly used operating systems.

History Of Microprocessor June 11, 2005 (AXcess News) Cupertino CA - While Apple enthusiasts seem to applaud the computer manufacturers move in switching to Intel chips, the move also risks a fall in PC sales until the new computers are released. When Apple Computer (Nasdaq: AAPL) announced the switch to Intel Corporation (Nasdaq: INTC) in using microprocessors that are found in 80 percent of all PCs, the Cupertino computer manufacturer risked losing sales of its popular Apple computers with consumers who wanted to wait until the newer PCs hit the market in two years. Though Apple did its homework before deciding on the switch to Intel microprocessors, it can't second-guess the market.

: 241 Description The Gefen ADC KVM Switch will allow you to connect 2 computers to your Apple Cinema Display (or other ADC monitor) USB mouse, keyboard and audio. Simply connect your monitor, mouse, keyboard and speakers to the switch, then using the included cables connect to each of your computers. You can switch between computers using the Select button on the KVM box.

Ecs Motherboard Developers may wait to develop for the PowerPC until the new Intel chip sets come out. Apple put developers on the shelf when they announced their move to Intel chips knowing they would not be able to do any development until that was in place. Still, Apple moved ahead with its plans.

A term created by Apple Computer, Inc. Mbit technology. For a given capacity, a noncomposite module will have fewer chips than a composite module. parity memory Memory that does not incorporate extra memory chips or logic to help detect bit errors. parity memory leaves error checking up to external circuits which the motherboard may possess.

Mainboard Driver Apple's focus in switching to Intel chips is to lower temperatures of high-performance chips that are powerful enough to power notebook computers and smaller devices, like Apple's Mac mini.

Computer Motherboard Apple's current chip suppliers, International Business Machines (NYSE: IBM) and Freescale Semiconductor, a Motorola (NYSE: MOT) spinoff, have been unable to produce a 3 gigahertz chip that matches the processing speed of the newer Intel chips. So Apple's move to Intel was really driven by capacity limitations, even though its risky to change chip suppliers.

Asus Mainboard Apple founder, Steve Jobs, spoke to reporters at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference at Moscone West in downtown San Francisco, saying the computer manufacturer envisioned new, more powerful products but that it needed more powerful chip sets to develop them.Intel Chief Executive Paul Otellini appeared with Jobs at the Conference saying that Apple Computer was an innovative company and that Intel was very pleased to be teaming up with the company.

Microprocessor Programming Apple pundits believe that the new chip sets will first appear in Apple laptops, though neither Jobs or Otellini would reveal which chip sets Apple would be using or in which computers they would be configured first.Investors were mixed in their reactions Friday when Apple shares closed down 32 cents to end the week's session at $37.92. Intel shares matched Apple's slight decline, falling 16 cents to close at $27.17.AXcess News will be reporting on any new market trends related to this story.
